updated press release for Pompey FA Cup song

For immediate release

– From impoverished to relegation now FA cup Finalists – could fund-raising song for bottom league Portsmouth top the UK Charts?

Following a very intense and dramatic FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley Stadium last Sunday Portsmouth FC – the team that were the favorites to lose against a more confident Tottenham, ended up winning while 30,000 Pompey fans who attended the game sang themselves hoarse. The Portsmouth supporters were dubbed “the noisiest fans in football” and two life long supporters of the club Phil Swan and Mike Fowler are now hopeful their anthem ‘We’re On Our Way (to Wembley)’ will be adopted as the club’s official FA Cup Song so that Portsmouth will not only be chasing the FA Cup but also number one of the UK Charts.

Phil and Mike, the founding members of the band Forever Blue originally co-wrote and produced ‘We’re On Our Way (to Wembley)’ for Portsmouth fans in celebration of a historic quarter final win at Old Trafford against Manchester United in 2008 – Portsmouth then went on to win the FA Cup that year. Last month however, Portsmouth became the first ever in the premier league to fall into administration. Despite their precarious financial position the play of the team remained on form and Portsmouth continued to progress to FA Cup semi finals. This which prompted Phil and Mike to re-release their song as a way for Pompey fans to show their support, to raise funds and rally round their club.

On Saturday, the day before the FA Cup semi final, Portsmouth FC also forfeited league points as a consequence of administration and were consequently relegated without even kicking a ball. After winning the game on Sunday, against incredible odds, the team now have the astonishing opportunity to take the FA Cup trophy at the final against Chelsea on 15th May.

In response to the extraordinary turn of events Phil, who sings lead vocals on ‘We’re On Our Way (to Wembley)’ said

“This Pompey fairy tale has epitomised the magic of football and the FA Cup – this is what we are celebrating in our song. The track is available for download on the clubs official website at http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk and sales will go straight to the club. We really hope that ‘We’re On Our Way (to Wembley)” will also go to general release soon and as Portsmouth have tens of thousands of supporters worldwide – if just a small percentage of them buy the track in one week this song might even enter the charts as well as raise a huge amount of money.”

Phil and Mike are in the process of organising live performances of ‘We’re On Our Way (to Wembley)’ on national, regional, local TV and radio stations and at various venues on the south cost.

Notes to editors; for further information and photos, to arrange an interview or live performance of the song ‘We’re On Our Way (to Wembley)’ please phone Phil Swan on 07512320960 or email philswan@hotmail.com.

    • thanks so fairy much Shari! I am busy with my kids right now (it’s the school holidays) and I am also trying to juggle paperwork fairy marketing & admin services so I do not find a lot of time to write any thing specific for this blog but instead try to remember to post any copy or info that I have already written for some other project. There is a subscribe button in the right column so you can be sent email notifications of when I post here. Thanks again so much for your encouragement – I’ll keep going 🙂 >;< x
